Frequently Asked Questions
What is a semen analysis?
A semen analysis includes a general evaluation of the semen quality, sperm count, sperm motility, sperm agglutination (clumping), and progression of the sperm. The sperm morphology test looks closely at individual sperm and checks for abnormal shapes in the head, neck or tail. From these results, the functional sperm count or the number of sperm that can fertilize an egg can be calculated.
What is a vaginal ultrasound examination?
A vaginal ultrasound exam is a way of imaging the uterus and ovaries using high-frequency sound waves (similar to sonar). This gives information about the lining of the uterus as well as follicle (egg sac) development.
Why use an ovulation predictor kit?
For ovulation monitoring, Dr. Berger recommends using an ovulation predictor kit. This is a urine test a woman performs at home to predict when she will ovulate. When the test becomes positive, this indicates that ovulation is impending and that the most fertile time of the cycle is at hand.
